These photographs were sent in by Sean-Michael Gettys, who is shown in the final photograph. Taken during Occupy Phoenix’s first months. He says, “This Peace Full photograph was taken by a friend of mine. It was during an uncertain time when we were protesting in a public space where the raised areas are designated for places of public rest, yet we were not being allowed to sleep without being harassed and facing possible arrest. The police had confiscated most of our signs the night before, so we were making new signs after meditating on the grass around the corner. Some people did not understand why I spelled it Peace Full instead of Peaceable or Peaceful, but I knew what I was feeling. I am unsure of the exact date and time this photograph was taken, although I remember it was towards the beginning of Occupy Phoenix, and that it was a bit chilly for Phoenix, so probably around November 2011. It was an intense and powerful experience and I continue to be challenged and inspired to investigate the meaning of peace in my own life as I continue to strive towards a world where people can live together in a more harmonious and respectful way. I am sending in some other photographs of chalk art and other peace loving people that I took during Occupy as well. I could send in others if you are interested.” What do you think?
